New 2023 Acura TLX is a straightforward sports sedan with well-coordinated maneuvers, good braking, a modicum of steering feel, and a tastefully furnished interior, though it isn’t quite a Japanese BMW 3-series. The standard TLX is powered by a 272-hp inline-four turbocharged engine; all-wheel drive is an option.
The fully loaded TLX Type S uses a spirited 355 horsepower twin-turbo V-6 and includes all-wheel drive as standard. A 10-speed automatic is bolted to both engines. The TLX feels light on its feet even though it is a little large for the segment. Rear-seat passengers don’t have much legroom in mid-size luxury sedans, despite their size being comparable to larger models like the Audi A6 and BMW 5-series. The TLX is an affordable alternative to its German rivals and has the communicative feel that discerning drivers will value.
What’s New 2023 Acura TLX ?
A new 2023 TLX Type S PMC Edition from Acura features handcrafted extras from its Performance Manufacturing Center. Curva Red, 130R White, and Long Beach Blue are the three colors that were previously used on the NSX that are offered for this special edition. A Berlina Black roof, antenna, door handles, and exhaust tips are among the exterior PMC details.
This model only features lightweight 20-inch copper-colored NSX-inspired wheels. Additionally, the TLX Type S PMC Edition has some carbon fiber, including a decklid spoiler, a rear diffuser, and interior trim pieces. All 2023 Acura models now include a free two-year scheduled maintenance plan and a free three-year subscription to the AcuraLink connectivity plan.

The top-performing and most expensive model of the TLX lineup is the 355-hp Type S. Even though its first quality makes it our favorite, its price only increases its allure, especially when compared to the BMW M340i. The all-wheel-drive BMW’s starting price is a little higher than that of the Type S, but when equipped to the hilt, it exceeds $56k.
The Type S is more affordable and includes luxuries like adaptive dampers, leather upholstery, and an ELS premium audio system as standard equipment. Additionally, we’d choose the $800 Performance package, which includes special 20-inch wheels with summer tires for the best possible cornering grip and stopping power.
New 2023 Acura TLX Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The standard TLX has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with turbocharging and 272 horsepower mated to an automatic transmission with 10 gears. The Acura all-wheel-drive system, known as SH-AWD, which distributes power among the wheels to enhance agility and traction, is optional and front-wheel drive is the default.
Unfortunately, our test vehicle’s acceleration was slowed down by its two tons of curb weight. Although it took 5.9 seconds to reach 60 mph, that is slower than other vehicles in this segment and even the less potent but lighter Honda Accord 2.0T we tested. Even so, the TLX’s excellent chassis tuning made it a lot of fun to drive and demonstrated Acura’s continued ability to produce sports sedans.
This sentiment is particularly valid for the more potent Type S, which comes equipped with a 355-hp turbo 3.0-liter V-6, a responsive 10-speed auto, SH-AWD, and a sportier suspension system. It is available with summer tires that are stickier and lighter 20-inch wheels, unlike the regular TLX. Its robust engine, engaging steering, excellent body control, and powerful brakes were all on display during our test drive. It didn’t feel as nimble as shorter sportier rivals like the Audi S4, and it has a firm ride that doesn’t hide road imperfections.
New 2023 Acura TLX Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The front-drive TLX has city and highway mileage ratings of 22 and 31 mpg, respectively. These numbers fall to 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for models with SH-AWD. Up to 19 city and 25 highway mpg are claimed for the TLX Type S. The four-cylinder, all-wheel-drive model we tested on our rigorous testing schedule’s 75 mph fuel-economy route returned 30 mpg. 2023 Acura TLX Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The TLX’s interior features an expressive design that emphasizes its sporty nature. These include appealing analog gauges and a large, centrally located rotary drive-mode selector. The TLX boasts nicer cabin materials than its predecessor, including open-pore wood and real aluminum, which is supported by Acura’s excellent build quality.
The sedan’s back seat, while feeling roomy from side to side, is smaller than those of some rivals in this class. Drivers are still rewarded by its highly adjustable front seats and superior forward visibility. Along with a variety of interior colors, distinctive leather upholstery, and appealing features, the TLX is available. The latter comes with a sizable 10.5-inch head-up display and adjustable ambient lighting options with names like “Pacific Coast” and “Suzuka” that are all inspired by well-known driving locales and racetracks.

The 10.2-inch infotainment system in every TLX is primarily operated by a touchpad on the center console. Physical controls next to the touchpad and buttons on the steering wheel can also be used to control some functions. Additionally, the touchpad has a padded resting area for your wrist below it that makes using it more comfortable.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are included as standard features with the TLX. The Advance package is required if you want a wireless charging pad and the most expensive ELS sound system.

AcuraWatch, which includes a variety of driver-assistance technology, is a standard feature of every TLX.
